Problems encountered

I've been pleasently surprised with the system. Initially I had suspicions it would not work which were proved wrong, I then suspected to encounter further problems at a later date but as of yet I have had none.

Power failures

Power failures present a potential problem but have not affected us yet. With most systems, including my own, when the power fails, so does the fence. However, after a few weeks of operation, your pets very rarely try to test it anyway so a power failure rarely presents an issue. If you have a more stubborn cat though, there are systems available with battery backup.

No fence but still using a wire

We have a couple of areas in our garden where we do not want to the cats to go but there is no fence to show a visible perimeter. I suspected that they would jump over the wire however they have yet to do that and we've had it installed now for over 3 years.

Broken wires

The wire has been cut once, by me, by accident! I was out in the garden digging and accidentally hit it with a spade. I didn't notice at the time but when I walked back in the house there was a very loud alarm going off, turned out to be the transmitter showing a faulty wire. As the wire is only copper, it was easily spliced and reconnected, wrapping tape around to make it as waterpoof as possible.

Changing the layout

Changing the layout is easily done, simply turn the unit off, splice the wire where you want to add a new section and splice the new wire. Join the two together and tape thoroughly with electrical tape to waterproof. Some kits come with waterproof joining kits.
